MLB Rumors: Giants "Team To Keep An Eye On" For 2 Prime Starting Pitchers On Trade Market

There's a baseball axiom that you can never have enough starting pitching. The San Francisco Giants certainly ascribe to that, as word is out that they have their eyes on two prime available starters on the trade market.

According to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, "I'm hearing that the Giants are looking at the Cincinnati Reds' starters (Luis) Castillo and (Tyler) Mahle... They're very good pitchers on a very, very terrible Reds team and they're likely to be traded if the Reds do the right thing."

Speaking on the New York Post podcast The Show, Heyman noted that, as usual, there's a lack of starting pitching depth all over baseball, but "the Giants are the team to keep an eye on."

Heyman says the New York Mets have also been scouting Mahle, but "Farhan Zaidi and the Giants front office has done a terrific job finding guys that have been underachieving elsewhere."

The Giants, overall, have a solid rotation, but most of their key starters have plenty of injury questions, not the least of which, Carlos Rodon, Alex Wood and Alex Cobb. Anthony DeSclafani is also currently on the 60-day IL. You can bet that they're on the lookout for some strong reinforcements.
