MLB Rumors: Cubs To Trade Pitcher
The Cubs have won only three out of their last 10 games and have fallen dramatically in the NL Central standings because of it. With their 11-19 record, their playoff hopes are rapidly dropping, and this could force them to be sellers this trade deadline season. One pitcher who we will likely see traded because of this is Drew Smyly.
Smyly quietly signed a one-year pact with the Cubs during the offseason at a very affordable $5.25 million guaranteed. Naturally, that low price for a starting pitcher will grab the attention of playoff-bound teams. With that, Smyly has been off to a solid start in the Windy City, as he has a 3.04 ERA in five starts.
Alas, it will be intriguing to see what the Cubs opt to do with Smyly, but with the team performing so poorly, a trade seems more likely than not.
