MLB Rumors: Cubs To Trade Catcher
After starting the season with a 15-22 record, it's fair to say that changes are on the way for the Chicago Cubs. Willson Contreras, a pending unrestricted free agent, is the team's biggest rental candidate this trade deadline season. His chances of being traded are continuing to increase, as the club signed fellow catcher Yan Gomes to a two-year deal during the offseason, too.
Contreras has been a key part of the Cubs for seven years now, so any trade centering around him will certainly upset their fans. However, with Chicago having another rough year, a trade seems inevitable. This is especially true when noting that the two-time All-Star would get them a nice return.
It's been another solid campaign for Contreras in 2022, as he has five home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .263 batting average in 32 games. Playoff teams looking to improve at catcher will definitely pursue Contreras from here.
