Mets Starter Heads To Injured List

Well, this explains everything. Just four days after getting blown out for 8 runs in just 1.1 innings, New York Mets starter Tylor Megill has been placed on the 15-day injured list with biceps tendinitis, as determined by an MRI.

There is no structural damage, but he'll be shut down from throwing for a few days, at which time the Mets will re-assess.

Megill had been filling in more than admirably for Jacob deGrom in the Mets' rotation this season, rolling to a 4-1 record with a 2.43 ERA through his first six starts. Then came Wednesday's blow-up, which ballooned his ERA to 4.41.

The Mets have called up right-handed reliever Colin Holderman from Triple-A Syracuse to take his spot on the roster, and transferred Trevor May to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man roster spot.

It's Holderman's first trip to the big leagues; the 26-year-old is off to a nice start at Syracuse, with a 2.92 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 3 saves.

Mike Puma of the New York Post opines that David Peterson could be an option in the longer term to replace MegIll in the rotation, though Peterson just started for Syracuse, so the Mets will need an interim replacement for a start on Monday.
