Mets Designate Veteran Infielder For Assignment

The New York Mets have designated Robinson Cano for assignment.

This is a big move by the Mets, as they will be eating just under $40 million of Cano's salary. Yet, at the end of the day, it was an understandable decision by New York. After being suspended for the 2021 season, Cano has struggled this campaign. In 12 games, he has one home run, three RBIs, and a .195 batting average.

It will be interesting to see what happens next for Cano. No team will be taking on his current contract, but if he hits the open market as a free agent, some clubs could be willing to sign him to a cheap deal. Time will tell what happens on that front, but it's clear that his time as a Met is over.
