Mariners Sign Veteran Pitcher
The Seattle Mariners have signed Fernando Abad to a minor league contract.
This is excellent news for Abad, as he was unable to find an MLB home during the offseason. Due to this, he signed with Saraperos De Saltillo of the Mexican League. With them, he sported a 2.25 ERA in four innings pitched. Now, his solid pitching has resulted in him getting another chance.
However, Abad will first have to earn himself a call-up to the Mariners' roster. The veteran reliever will first be pitching for Triple-A Tacoma in hopes of getting a promotion. Time will tell what happens on that front.
In 400 career games between the Astros, Nationals, A's, Twins, Red Sox, Giants, and Orioles, Abad has an 8-29 record, 3.77 ERA, and 290 strikeouts.
