Guardians Top Infield Prospect Suffers Fractured Hand

The Cleveland Guardians' No. 3 prospect is going to be missing quite a bit of time after undergoing surgery for a hand fracture. Currently at Triple-A Columbus, 22-year-old infielder Gabriel Arias will likely miss about 6-to-8 weeks of action.

Arias was the top prospect the Guardians landed in the nine-player Mike Clevinger trade in 2020. According to MLB.com's prospect scouting report, "Arias has impressive bat speed and strength that give him more raw power than most shortstops. He had a strong year in 2021 at Columbus, posting an .802 OPS to go along with 13 home runs and stellar defense.

He spent one day on the Guardians' roster this season, playing in both ends of a double-header on April 20th, going 1-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored.

With his recovery timeline, it's unlikely he'll be getting another shot in the majors until at least the second half of the season.
