Guardians Sign Outfielder
The Cleveland Guardians have signed Anthony Alford to a minor league contract.
Alford recently elected to become a free agent instead of being sent down to Triple-A by the Pirates. Now, he will be aiming to land himself an eventual call-up with the Guardians by playing well with Triple-A Columbus.
Alford has made appearances at the major league level in six straight seasons - including this one. In his two games this year, he has one hit in four at-bats. Overall, he didn't struggle, but he will now be hoping to build on this start with the Guardians from here.
In 102 career games between the Blue Jays and Pirates, Alford has eight home runs, 20 RBIs, and a .209 batting average.
