Diamondbacks Designate Infielder For Assignment
The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated Sergio Alcantara for assignment.
The Diamondbacks acquired Alcantara from the Cubs before the start of the 2022 season in exchange for cash. Since the move, he has appeared in 23 regular-season games for the D-Backs. In them, he has one home run, seven RBIs, and a .189 batting average. This wasn't enough for him to maintain his spot on their 40-man roster, so now the team will either place him on waivers or trade him from here.
Alcantara has made appearances at the major league level in each of the last three seasons. Yet, he hasn't been able to find a permanent home, as each year he has played for a different team. In 122 career games between the Tigers, Cubs, and Diamondbacks, he has seven home runs, 25 RBIs, and a .197 batting average.
