Cubs Lose Catcher To Injured List
The Chicago Cubs will be without catcher Yan Gomes, as he's been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained oblique. Nico Hoerner returns from the IL to take his spot on the roster.
Gomes also missed time with an oblique injury last year, and that issue cost him three weeks.
It's a bad break for the North Siders, as Gomes was doing some nice work behind the plate. Cubs pitchers are dealing to a 3.19 ERA, and a .207 batting average and .624 OPS against. In particular, Kyle Hendricks has benefited significantly from having Gomes behind the dish.

At the plate, Gomes was off to a .247 start to the season, equal to his career mark, with two homers and 7 RBIs.
P.J. Higgins stands to see quite a bit more time behind the plate now, as Willson Contreras has also missed the last four games with a hamstring issue, and isn't quite ready to return yet.
