Cardinals Promote Uber-Prospects

The future is apparently now for the St. Louis Cardinals, as they've called up two of their top 3 prospects. It starts in the infield, where, after demolishing Triple-A pitching, Nolan Gorman is arriving in The Show on Friday.

Gorman hit .308 with a 1.044 OPS at Memphis, with a ridiculous 15 HR in just 36 games. He'll start at second base Friday night, meaning that Tommy Edman will slide over to shortstop, a position recently vacated when Paul DeJong was sent down.

But the Cardinals weren't finished there: They've also promoted their top pitching prospect, Matthew Liberatore, who just happens to be best friends with Gorman. He'll get the start on Saturday.

Liberatore was off to a nice start at AAA, with a 3.83 ERA and a 10.4 K/9. Both he and Gorman are from the Phoenix area, and the 22-year-olds grew up as best friends. They'll now be teammates in the big leagues. That is one cool story.

To help make room for the best buds, Tyler O'Neill has been placed on the 10-day IL with a shoulder impingement.
