Yankees Sign Veteran Infielder
The New York Yankees have signed Derek Dietrich to a minor league contract.
Dietrich is a familiar face, as he spent time with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders last season. In 36 games with the club, he had five home runs, 22 RBIs, and a .215 batting average. Overall, he didn't take the world by storm with them, but he will provide them with another veteran option on their roster.
Dietrich will be hoping to get himself back in the majors. In 746 games between the Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, and Texas Rangers, he has 84 home runs, 255 RBIs, and a .245 batting average. His versatility could eventually help his case, too, as he can play second base, third base, and the outfield.
Alas, we will have to wait and see what happens from here with Dietrich.
