Yankees And Rangers Complete Trade
The New York Yankees have acquired Jose Trevino from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Albert Abreu and Robby Ahlstrom.
The Yankees were in need of a new catcher, as they traded Gary Sanchez. As a result of this, they targeted Trevino, and a deal has now been finalized.
Trevino is a catcher who is more praised for his defense versus his offense, so he will not impress too many fans at the plate. In 89 with Texas last season, he had five home runs, 30 RBIs, and a .239 batting average. Although those numbers aren't amazing, he will provide the Yankees with a reliable catcher behind the plate.
Abreu is out of minor league options, so that is likely the major reason why the Yankees opted to move him. He is viewed as a reliever who has a good amount of potential, but he still hasn't been able to translate it over to the majors. In 30 games with the Yankees, he had a 2-1 record and 5.68 ERA.
The Rangers are also getting a pitching prospect in Ahlstrom. The Yankees selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft, and he will be beginning his professional career in 2022.
