Tigers Receive Brutal Injury News
Detroit Tigers top prospect Riley Greene was expected to be the team's starting center fielder for the start of the 2022 season. Yet, that unfortunately will not be coming to fruition, as the 21-year-old has a fractured foot and will be out indefinitely.
Greene is viewed as one of the top prospects in the entire sport, so there naturally was a lot of excitement about his debut for the team. However, this now will have to be put on pause due to the severity of his current injury.
Greene spent the 2021 campaign with both Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. With the former, he had 16 home runs, 54 RBIs, and a .298 batting average in 84 games. When called up to Triple-A, he remained quite consistent, as he had eight home runs and a .308 batting average in 40 games. With numbers like these, it is easy to understand why there is so much excitement surrounding him.
Alas, here's to hoping that Greene has a speedy recovery. It will be excellent to see what he is capable of doing at the major league level once he is healthy.
