Tigers First-Overall Pick Makes Opening Day Roster
The Detroit Tigers may be without top prospect Riley Greene for the beginning of the 2022 season, but their fans should still be excited about something else. The Tigers' 2020 first-overall, Spencer Torkelson, has made the Opening Day roster.
Torkelson, like Greene, is viewed as one of the league's best prospects, so there naturally will be a ton of excitement following him. The 22-year-old first baseman has the potential to be an excellent hitter at the major league level, so it will be intriguing to see how he performs from here.
In 121 games between Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A last season, Torkelson played very well, as he had 30 home runs, 91 RBIs, and a .267 batting average. This is very impressive when noting that this was his taste of professional baseball action. Thus, he progressed extremely well in just one year and has earned himself this marvelous promotion because of it.
Nevertheless, all baseball fans should pay close attention to Torkelson this season. If his power translates over the majors immediately, we could be looking at potential AL Rookie of the Year candidate. Time will tell on that front.
