Tigers Call Up Infielder
The Detroit Tigers have called up Willi Castro from Triple-A Toledo.
It isn't surprising at all that the Tigers recalled Castro, as Javier Baez was just placed on the 10-day injured list. With this, they needed a replacement for him in the infielder, and Castro will provide them with just that.
Castro spent each of the last three seasons with the Tigers, so he is a familiar face with plenty of major league experience. In 191 games with the team, he has 16 home runs, 70 RBIs, and a .248 batting average. The 2020 season was his best one, however, as he had a .349 batting average in 36 games. He will be aiming to find that form again, as it would likely lead him to have a permanent spot on their major league roster again.
Nevertheless, even if this is a short-term call-up, Castro will give the Tigers a solid utility player for the time being.
