Seattle Mariners Sign Pitcher
The Seattle Mariners have signed Nick Ramirez to a minor league contract.
Ramirez has made appearances in the majors in each of the last three seasons. In 64 games between the Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres, he has a 6-5 record, 4.55 ERA, and 99 strikeouts. Yet, he did struggle when utilized by San Diego last season, as he sported a 1-1 record and 5.75 ERA in 11 games.
Yet, the new year offers Ramirez a clean slate, and he will be looking to bounce back in Triple-A with the Tacoma Rainers. If he performs well, he certainly could land himself a call-up as the season progresses.
It is never a bad thing for a team to add to their pitching depth, so it is easy to understand why the Mariners have signed a player like Ramirez. If injuries occur, he will provide them with a replacement who has major league experience.
