Royals Top Prospect Makes Opening Day Roster
Kansas City Royals fans should be ecstatic, as the team has announced that top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. has made their Opening Day roster.
The Royals selected Witt Jr. with the second-overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft, so naturally, there is a plethora of hype surrounding him. The 21-year-old shortstop is also coming off of an excellent 2021 season. In 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A, he had an impressive 33 home runs, 97 RBIs, and a .290 batting average. With that, he also was a threat on the basepaths, as he had a combined 29 stolen bases, too.
What's even more impressive about Witt Jr.'s campaign is that this was his first taste at either level, too. Thus, he certainly showed that he is ready for this major promotion, and he will now be beginning his journey in the majors.
With the Royals looking to become competitive again, it is excellent to see Witt Jr. ready to go for them. It will be interesting to see how he performs. If he can carry over the success he had in the minors to the majors, we could be looking at a potential 2022 AL Rookie of the Year candidate. Time will tell on that front.
