Charlie Goldsmith, Reds beat writer, reports that Lodolo is suffering from a lower back strain. The team already has two other starters on the IL, Luis Castillo and Mike Minor. This leaves only four starters on the depth chart, Tyler Mahle, Hunter Greene, Reiver Sanmartin and Vladimir Gutierrez. It's not clear at this point who the 5th starter might be.
Lodolo, who was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 Amateur Draft, went 1-2 in his first three major league starts, with a 5.52 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. He is bringing the heat, registering 11.7 K/9.
Infielder Mike Moustakas has been activated from the 10-day IL to replace Lodolo on the roster. He was out just 10 days with a biceps strain. Manager David Bell says for the time being, Moose will likely just be used as a DH.
