Rays Sign Outfielder To Extension
The Tampa Bay Rays have signed Manuel Margot to a two-year, $19 million contract extension.
Margot just completed his second season with the Rays, and it's fair to state that he impressed them during it - hence why he has landed this extension. In 125 games, he had 10 home runs, 57 RBIs, and a .254 batting average. With that, he also was active on the basepaths, as he had a solid 12 stolen bases.
Yet, Margot's true value comes from his excellent fielding ability. The Rays will be extremely happy about him manning their center field over the next few years. He has proven to be very reliable in this role and should continue to be.
In 600 career games played between the San Diego Padres and Rays, Margot has 44 home runs, 198 RBIs, and a .251 batting average. It will be intriguing to see how much these totals change over the course of this extension.
Nevertheless, this is a very good day for the Rays. They have extended another one of their top players and now can head into the 2022 season knowing he won't be going anywhere for a while.
