Rays Claim Pitcher Off Waivers From Red Sox
The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed Ralph Garza off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox landed Garza off waivers recently, but the 28-year-old was unable to make the team's roster during Spring Training. Now, he will be aiming to do just that as a member of the Rays.
Garza just completed his first season in the majors during the 2021 campaign. In 27 games between the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins, he had a 1-4 record, 3.56 ERA, and 29 strikeouts. Overall, it wasn't a bad showing for the rookie, so it will be intriguing to see if that helps his chances of making the Rays from here.
If the Rays elect to have him play in Triple-A, that wouldn't be a bad thing, either. At a minimum, he will provide them with more bullpen depth, and that's always important to have. Furthermore, he also could fight his way to a major league spot if this occurs, too. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see what happens with him from here.
