Rangers Release Outfielder

The Texas Rangers have released Joe McCarthy. With this, the 28-year-old outfielder is expected to sign with the Orix Buffaloes of NPB.

McCarthy did not end up getting any playing time with the Rangers' major league club this campaign. His major league career has also been rather short, as he only played four games with the San Francisco Giants back in 2020. With them, he went 0-for-10 at the plate and had five strikeouts. 

McCarthy will now be looking to put together a very strong season in Orix. If he does, it very well could grab the attention of major league clubs. We have seen players thrive overseas and end up returning to the sport's most competitive league later down the road. Time will tell what happens on that front with McCarthy.
