Pirates And Diamondbacks Complete Trade
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired Josh VanMeter from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Listher Sosa.
The Diamondbacks designated VanMeter for assignment earlier this week, so it isn't surprising that they opted to trade him. The 27-year-old will now aim to cement himself a spot on Pittsburgh's major league roster from here.
VanMeter appeared in 112 games with Arizona last season, where he had six home runs, 36 RBIs, and a .212 batting average. Overall, it wasn't a perfect year for him, but he will be looking to hit better for contact this time around.
Pittsburgh will like having VanMeter around, as he can play second base and in the outfield. This, in turn, will allow them to use him in multiple different spots in their lineup.
As for Arizona, they are getting another prospect in their system with Sosa. In 11 games last season, he had a 3-1 record and 4.31 ERA in the minors.
