Phillies and Brewers Swing Trade
The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired some outfield depth, acquiring once-promising prospect Dustin Peterson from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.
The 27-year-old Peterson will start his Phillies career in Triple-A, where the organization was getting a little thin in the outfield after some call-ups to the big club. He's had only a handful of games in the majors thus far, in 2018 with the Atlanta Braves and 2019 with the Detroit Tigers. But Peterson, the No. 50 overall pick in the June Draft in 2013, has had a lengthy run in the minors over the past nine seasons, compiling a .263 average and .705 OPS.
2021 was Peterson's best showing, however, batting .272 with a .762 OPS with the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville. Milwaukee, at this point though, was more interested in dealing for some cash relief, so they've now moved Peterson along to the Phillies.
The Phils certainly needed the OF depth, after losing Odubel Herrera and Mickey Moniak to injuries, while also trading Adam Haseley to the Chicago White Sox before the season started.
