MLB Rumors: Yankees And Padres Talking Big Trade
According to Jon Heyman, the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees have had discussions over a trade centering around Joey Gallo.
Talks heated up during Spring Training, but a trade did not come to fruition. Yet, given the fact that the Padres were major players in the Gallo sweepstakes last season, it wouldn't be surprising to see them continue their efforts to land the power-hitting outfielder.
Gallo has struggled immensely since becoming a Yankee, though. In 70 games with the team, he has 13 home runs, 22 RBIs, and a .154 batting average. This season has been particularly bad for him so far, though, as he has a .121 batting average and 15 strikeouts in 12 games. He also has yet to hit a home run or even get an RBI. With all of this, his trade value is at its lowest.
However, given the fact that Gallo is coming off of a 38-home run season and a two-time All-Star, San Diego could be willing to take a chance on him. When he's on his game, he has the potential to hit 40 home runs per season, which he has done twice. Alas, we will have to wait and see if these talks continue as the year progresses.
