MLB Rumors: Padres Pitcher Open To Extension
While speaking with the San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee, Joe Musgrove stated that he would be open to signing a contract extension with the team during the season.
Musgrove is currently in his second season with the Astros, and he's off to a great start during it. In three starts, he sports a 2-0 record, 1.89 ERA, and 21 strikeouts. This is also coming off of a career-best season in 2021. In 32 games with SD last year, he had an 11-9 record and 3.18 ERA.
Musgrove has made it known that he would prefer a long-term deal. If he continues to pitch this well moving forward, the Padres should absolutely consider signing him to just that. The 29-year-old was always viewed as having a lot of potential, and he has been showing that quite well since arriving in San Diego. Alas, let's see if he lands a new deal shortly because of it.
