Mariners Designate Pitcher For Assignment
To open up a roster spot for Mitch Haniger's return, the Seattle Mariners have designated Matt Koch for assignment.
Koch joined the Mariners during the offseason and made their major league roster for the start of the 2022 campaign. However, it's clear that the 31-year-old has struggled when called upon, as he has allowed four earned runs on five hits in just 4.1 innings pitched. Thus, one could argue that this decision from the Mariners was predictable.
It will be interesting to see if a team decides to either trade for or claim Koch off waivers. He does come with some experience, as he has made appearances in five MLB seasons. In 40 career games, he has a 6-6 record and 5.00 ERA.
