Mariners Designate First Baseman For Assignment
Earlier this week, the Seattle Mariners called up Mike Ford to their major league squad. Now, things have unfortunately changed for the first baseman, as the team has designated him for assignment.
During his brief call-up, Ford did not see any game action for Seattle. Thus, this demotion back to Triple-A isn't indicative of his play. Instead, it's because Luis Torrens is ready to return to the lineup, and the club needed to open up a spot on their 40-man roster.
Ford is now on waivers, and it will be intriguing to see if another team elects to claim him. In 101 career games with the New York Yankees, he has 17 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a .199 batting average. If nobody bites and he clears, he will likely report back to Triple-A.
