Guardians Sign Pitcher To Extension
The Cleveland Guardians have signed Emmanuel Clase to a five-year, $20 million contract extension. It also comes with club options for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns.
The Guardians are showing extreme confidence in giving Clase this long of a contract. Ultimately, it makes sense, as he was excellent in his first season with Cleveland. In 71 games, he had a 4-5 record, 1.29 ERA, and 24 saves. Heading into the 2022 season, he is expected to be their closer and will aim to have another successful year.
If Clase can continue to pitch this well from here, this could end up being a marvelous contract for the Guardians. They have him locked up for many years, so it will be intriguing to see if he can maintain his excellent form.
Nevertheless, the Guardians have one major player extended. They now will have to continue to do the same thing with Jose Ramirez.
