Guardians Claim Pitcher Off Waivers
The Cleveland Guardians have claimed Luis Oviedo off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Oviedo hasn't made an appearance at the major league level but does come with a little bit of past experience. In 22 games as a rookie last season with Pittsburgh, he had a 1-2 record and a very rough 8.80 ERA. This certainly wasn't how Oviedo wanted his first year in the bigs to go, but now he will have the chance to change his fortunes in Cleveland.
Oviedo is also a very familiar face to the organization. He initially signed with the Guardians back in 2015 and played four seasons within their system. Thus, it's clear that Cleveland still has faith in him, so let's see if he can emerge as a full-time MLB pitcher with them.
Nevertheless, at worst, the Guardians have added to their pitching depth with this waiver claim.
