Diamondbacks Sign Pitcher To Extension
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed Merrill Kelly to a two-year contract extension. It will begin in 2023 and he will make a guaranteed $18 million from it. With that, it also comes with a $7 million club option for the 2025 campaign.
Kelly just completed his third season with the Diamondbacks in 2021. In 27 appearances with the team, he sported a 7-11 record and 4.44 ERA. Overall, it was a year of mixed results for the 33-year-old, and he will be looking for more consistency this time around. Keep in mind, he had a solid 2.59 ERA during the shortened 2020 season.
The Diamondbacks have been quite busy when it comes to contract extensions lately. They of course signed Ketel Marte to a five-year one last week.
Nevertheless, there isn't too much risk in Arizona giving Kelly this deal. He has been a decent starter for them over the years, so let's see how he continues to perform from here.
