Cubs To Select Pitcher
According to Maddie Lee, the Chicago Cubs are expected to select Mark Leiter Jr.'s contract. With this, he will be joining the major league squad.
Leiter Jr. last pitched in the majors during the 2018 season between the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. In 20 relief appearances, he had a 0-1 record and a very rough 7.71 ERA. However, now in 2022, he is set to have the opportunity to bounce back with the Cubs. If he performs well, perhaps he could land himself a permanent spot in their bullpen.
Leiter Jr. looked solid in his lone start with Triple-A Iowa this season. During it, he pitched four innings, where he had seven strikeouts. With that, he allowed four hits and one run. It will be intriguing to see if this kind of start will spark Chicago to give him one at the major league level, too.
Nevertheless, expect Leiter Jr.'s promotion to be made official shortly.
