Braves Designate Pitcher For Assignment
The Atlanta Braves have designated Sean Newcomb for assignment.
Newcomb has made appearances with the Braves in each of the last six seasons. In 2021, he sported a 2-0 record and 4.73 ERA in 32 games. This season has been off to a particularly poor start for him, however, as he has allowed four earned runs in just five innings pitched.
Perhaps a trip to the minor leagues could help Newcomb find his previous form. In 144 career games with Atlanta, he has a 24-23 record, 4.25 ERA, and 390 strikeouts. Yet, for now, he will not get the chance to build on these numbers.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what other moves the Braves complete from here. The reigning World Series champions are off to a poor 5-7 start, so they could be in for many.
