Blue Jays Receive Update on Injured Starter

The Toronto Blue Jays are off to a hot start this season but unfortunately there's already been some injury concerns. More specifically with starter Hyun Jin Ryu as the southpaw has hit the 10-day IL with left forearm soreness. Well, the news is out, the team has announced it's expected Ryu will only miss a couple of weeks and should be back after missing a few starts.

Ryu's performance has been under the spotlight since the beginning of spring training and some were worried about his velocity and command being nowhere where it needed to be or where it's expected after the Blue Jays signed him a couple of years ago to a mega-contract. So far this season in the 7.1 innings he's appeared in, the veteran lefty has given up 11 earned runs and two home runs.

Ryu was lifted last weekend against the Oakland A's after experiencing soreness during his start, and now the team is hopeful he can use a few weeks of rehab to build back the strength and to work on getting more sharp for his next start.

The 35-year-old holds a career record of 73-45, including a 19-12 record since heading north to Toronto. The Blue Jays sit atop the American League East with a 6-4 record and now will turn to Ross Stripling to take Ryu's spot in the rotation for the next couple of weeks.
