Blue Jays And White Sox Swap Catchers
The Chicago White Sox have traded Zack Collins to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Reese McGuire.
We reported late last month that a McGuire trade was to be expected. The Blue Jays are heading into the 2022 season with a catching tandem of Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk. With that, McGuire is out of minor league options. Thus, instead of potentially losing him for nothing through waivers, Toronto has instead opted to move him for Collins. Thankfully for them, they can send Collins down to the minors without any consequences.
In 78 games last season, Collins had four home runs, 26 RBIs, and a .210 batting average. The 27-year-old is still aiming to cement himself as a full-time major leaguer, but at this juncture, he is expected to be depth in the system for the Blue Jays.
McGuire, on the other hand, should have the chance to be the White Sox's backup catcher in 2022. In 78 games last season, he had one home run, 10 RBIs, and a .253 batting average.
