Yankees Sign Veteran Utilityman

It's far from a big splash, but the New York Yankees have dipped their toes into the free agent waters, signing veteran utilityman Marwin Gonzalez to a minor league deal.

In 10 years in the big leagues, Gonzalez has established himself more for his extremely verstatile defense rather than his hitting. He's a career .256 hitter with a .717 OPS.

He did have one breakout offensive season, with the Houston Astros in 2017. But, yes, that was with...the Houston Astros...in 2017. So Yankee fans will take that with a grain of salt.

Throughout his career, Gonzalez has played every single position on the diamond except catcher. Yankees manager Aaron Boone called him “heady,” a “gamer,” “a winning-type player” and a “pro.”

If the 33-year-old switch-hitter makes the Yankees major league roster, he'll earn $1.1M, according to mlb.com's Mark Feinsand
