Washington Nationals Sign Veteran Reliever
The Washington Nationals have signed Steve Cishek to a one-year contract.
Cishek should be a nice addition to the Nationals' bullpen, as it's an area where they certainly need improvement. The 35-year-old continued to provide strong reliability last season with the Los Angeles Angels, as he sported a 0-2 record, 3.42 ERA, and 64 strikeouts in an impressive 74 appearances. He's a solid option to bring in during the middle of games and should continue to be with Washington.
Cishek has had a rather lengthy career, too. It's never a bad thing for a team to add experience to their pitching staff. In 668 career appearances between the Florida/Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and Angels, he has a 32-39 record, 2.85 ERA, and 669 strikeouts. Needless to say, the Falmouth, Massachusetts native has been very dependable for years.
Nevertheless, this appears to be a good little signing for the Nationals. Let's see how the longtime reliever performs from here.
