Twins And Reds Complete Big Trade
The Minnesota Twins have acquired Sonny Gray and Francis Peguero from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for prospect Chase Petty.
Gray's days with the Reds seemed to be numbered, as it's well-known that the team is looking to shed salary. Now, the 32-year-old will be a key starter for the Twins from here.
In 26 appearances this past season with the Reds, Gray had a 7-9 record, 4.19 ERA, and 155 strikeouts. Although his ERA was a bit higher than usual for his standards, he still pitched well and should make a positive impact on the Twins from here.
Gray, who is a two-time All-Star, has an 82-72 record, 3.61 ERA, and 1,221 career strikeouts in 223 appearances between the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and Reds. Now, he will have the opportunity to build on these numbers with the Twins.
Petty certainly is a nice return for Gray, though. The 18-year-old was just selected with the 26th overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, so he is viewed as having a high ceiling. He had his first taste of action with the FCL Twins last season, where he allowed three earned runs in five innings pitched.
