Toronto Blue Jays Sign Pitcher
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Andrew Vasquez to a major league contract.
This is a pretty interesting development, as we have seen plenty of established pitchers receive minor league deals this offseason. Yet, even though Vasquez has very limited experience in the majors, Toronto is confident in him - hence why they sent him a major league offer.
Vasquez appeared in two games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, where he allowed no earned runs and had three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. Before this, he also pitched in 10 games for the Minnesota Twins during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. With them, he had a 1-0 record, 10.80 ERA, and seven strikeouts.
In 39 games this past season between Triple-A St. Paul and Triple-A Oklahoma City, Vasquez had a 4-0 record, 3.54 ERA, and 79 strikeouts. Thus, he did fairly well in the minors.
Nevertheless, this is a little bit of a surprising move, but it will be intriguing to see how the 28-year-old performs with his new club.
