Tampa Bay Rays Sign Reliever
The Tampa Bay Rays have signed Jason Adam to a one-year, $900,000 contract. With that, he can earn up to $250,000 in incentives.
Adam is coming off of a rough year in 2021. In 12 appearances with the Chicago Cubs, he sported a 1-0 record but also had a very high 5.91 ERA. Yet, there is certainly a belief that he can turn it around in 2022 with the Rays, as he had a 2.91 ERA in 2019 and 3.29 ERA in 2020. Thus, he has had moments of being very reliable, so let's see if that happens again from here.
In 79 career games between the Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Cubs, Adam has a 6-4 record, 4.71 ERA, and 95 strikeouts. He is starting to become a bit of a journeyman during his young career, as the Rays will be his fourth major league team in just five seasons of play.
Nevertheless, this is a low-risk move by the Rays. If Adam bounces back, he could be an absolute steal for them. However, if he continues to struggle, that salary is still very affordable.
