Seiya Suzuki Picks His New Destination
The Seiya Suzuki sweepstakes has an unexpected winner, as the Chicago Cubs have signed the outfielder to a five-year, $70 million contract.
When remembering that the Cubs traded away Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Javier Baez last season, this is a rather surprising move. However, if Suzuki can translate over the success he had in Japan to North America, he will instantly become their new best player.
Suzuki had an amazing tenure with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of NPB. Over the course of his nine-year career with them, he had 182 home runs, 562 RBIs, and a .315 batting average. With that, he also was six Best Nine Awards, five Central League Golden Glove Awards, and was a five-time All-Star. Overall, he was dominant overseas, so it will be intriguing to see how well he plays with the Cubs from here.
Let's see if this sparks the Cubs to make other huge moves before Opening Day.
