Royals And Veteran Pitcher Reunite
The Kansas City Royals have signed Zack Greinke to a one-year, $13 million contract.
This is super cool to see, as Greinke began his wonderful career with Kansas City. In 210 appearances with them over seven seasons, he had a 60-67 record, 3.82 ERA, and was named to one All-Star Game. He also of course won his lone Cy Young Award with the team, too. It's been 12 years since the 38-year-old has been a member of the Royals, but now he is again.
The 2021 season was a year of mixed results for Greinke, as he had an 11-6 record, 4.16 ERA, and 120 strikeouts. His days of being a star ace may be behind him, but he is absolutely still a solid option to be in the middle of the rotation. With the Royals not possessing the strongest of rosters, they will be leaning on him a lot.
In 530 career games between the Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Astros, Greinke has a 219-132 record and 3.41 ERA.
