Rockies Sign Infielder To Huge Extension
The Colorado Rockies are moving on from Trevor Story in a big way. After spending $182M on free agent Kris Bryant, they've re-upped with their 3rd baseman Ryan McMahon, signing him to a huge 6-year contract extension that will guarantee him $70M.
Versatile infielder Ryan McMahon and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a six-year, $70 million contract extension, sources familiar with deal tell ESPN. McMahon, 27, took a leap forward defensively in 2021 and has enough thunder in his bat for Colorado to commit long-term.

McMahon had a solid season in 2021, with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs, and, as Insider Jeff Passan noted, "took a leap forward defensively." He played over 100 games at third base, but also notched some time at 2nd base, though Brendan Rodgers is expected to play most games there for 2022.
The McMahon contract buys out his final two arbitration years, plus his first four free agent eligible seasons.
The 27-year-old has an added twist to the deal, whereby if he finishes Top 5 in MVP voting in any of the first three years of the pact, he can opt-out after the 4th year.
