Reds Lose Newly-Aquired Pitcher For "Months"

One of the big trades this offseason saw the Cincinnati Reds send Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners. One of the key pieces they got in return—right-hander Justin Dunn—is now out for "months" with a shoulder injury. Manager David Bell confirmed that shoulder soreness will keep Dunn out at least a couple of months.

But as reported by Bobby Nightengale, the Reds actually knew about Dunn's injury before the trade.

Reds fans were already disgruntled with the dismantling of the team, and this knowledge that they knowingly traded for an injured pitcher isn't helping matters.

The 26-year-old Dunn, a former first-round pick, injured his shoulder in June of 2021 while with the Seattle Mariners. He hasn't pitched since. In 50 innings on the mound last year, he posted a 3.75 in 11 starts.

Dunn had been in the running for the Reds' fifth starter spot.
