Red Sox Sign Veteran Reliever
The Boston Red Sox are signing Jake Diekman to a multi-year deal.
After having an almost perfect 2020 campaign with the Oakland Athletics, Diekman once again put together a strong season in 2021. In 67 appearances, he had a 3-3 record, 3.86 ERA, and 83 strikeouts. Although he did put up a ridiculous 0.42 ERA this go-around, he was still quite effective and still should be now with Boston.
Diekman will also add a ton of experience to the team's bullpen. In 529 career appearances between the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, and A's, he has a 20-25 record, 3.73 ERA, and 581 strikeouts. It's been a solid career for the 35-year-old, and he will continue to build on it with the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are continuing to sign relievers, as they also inked Matt Strahm to a deal on Sunday.
