Red Sox Sign Star Shortstop
The Boston Red Sox have won the Trevor Story sweepstakes, as they have signed the shortstop to a six-year, $140 million contract.
The Red Sox have struck out on all of the top free agents they pursued this offseason, but now they have officially landed one in Story. With their American League East rivals all getting stronger, it makes sense that they wanted to make a splash of their own.
With Story, the Red Sox are getting another All-Star in their infield. However, he is also coming off of a down year, so he will be looking to bounce back in 2022. In 142 games with the Colorado Rockies, he had 24 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .251 batting average. Overall, he was still a threat at the plate but did see his main numbers drop a bit.
Yet, when looking at his excellent resume, he is a major addition to their lineup. In 745 career games with the Rockies, Story has 158 home runs, 450 RBIs, and a .272 batting average. With that, he is a two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner.
Nevertheless, the Sox have made their first huge signing of the Chaim Bloom era. Let's see how it works out.
