Red Sox Bring Back Infielder
The Boston Red Sox have signed Travis Shaw to a minor league contract. He is currently at Spring Training with the team and competing for a spot on the major league roster.
Shaw spent the 2021 season split between the Milwaukee Brewers and Red Sox. In 84 total games, he had nine home runs, 39 RBIs, and a .200 batting average. Thus, the 31-year-old did have some struggles at the plate, but will now be looking to regroup in 2022.
Shaw offers strong versatility, as he can play third base, first base, and second base. Thus, he has the potential to be a solid platoon player for the Red Sox if he is able to impress during camp.
In 726 games between the Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Brewers, Shaw has 114 home runs, 366 RBIs, and a .239 batting. His best seasons occurred during his first two years with Milwaukee, as he had 31 and then 32 home runs. Therefore, he is capable of providing a bit of power when called upon.
