Pirates Sign 2 Veterans
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Daniel Vogelbach and Heath Hembree to one-year contracts.
Although the Pirates are not expected to be among the league's bests this season, it is still nice to see them make some additions for a change. Neither of these two are necessarily stars, but they will provide them with more major-league talent for the upcoming season.
In 93 games last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, Vogelbach had nine home runs, 24 RBIs, and a .219 batting average. Although it is unlikely that he will replicate his 30-home run and All-Star-caliber 2019 season, he still should be a serviceable addition to Pittsburgh's lineup.
Hembree is a veteran reliever who should help the team's bullpen. The 33-year-old did have his struggles last season, however, as he had a 2-7 record and 5.59 ERA in 60 appearances between the Reds and Mets. He will be looking to bounce back in 2022, as he did have some strong seasons with the Red Sox.
