Phillies Sign Veteran Closer
Brad Hand has a new home, as he has signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Hand had himself an eventful 2021 season, as he played for the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Mets. On the year, he had a 6-7 record, 3.90 ERA, and 21 saves. After struggling mightily in Toronto, he bounced back with the Mets, as he had a 2.70 ERA in 16 appearances. Thus, he is heading into the new year hot.
Hand will provide the Phillies with another potential closer option. Their bullpen ran into issues last season, so it makes sense that they are looking to improve on it. If Hand can remain consistent this campaign, he should be a very solid addition to the team.
In 464 games between the Florida/Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, Cleveland, Nationals, Blue Jays, and Mets, Hand has a 32-50 record, 3.68 ERA, and 126 saves.
