MLB Rumors: Padres "Aggressively Shopping" Two Long-Time Veterans
The San Diego Padres are looking for a reboot. What started out as wildly successful campaign in the first half of 2021, went seriously off the rails in the second half, as they plummeted far out of the playoff picture. GM A.J. Preller is trying to put back together the pieces in 2022, and part of that is attempting to remove a couple of expensive, veteran pieces. Mark Feinsand of mlb.com reports they are "aggressively shopping" Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers.
Per sources, the Padres are "aggressively shopping" both Eric Hosmer & Wil Myers.

Hosmer:
* 4 years/$60M left on deal
* Limited no-trade (can block deals to 10 teams)
* can opt out after '22
* 10-5 rights after '22
Myers:
* owed $20M in '22
* $20M '23 club option ($1M buyout)
First baseman Hosmer has severely underperformed on the massive 8-year, $144M contract he signed with San Diego in 2018. He's batting .264 with a meager .738 OPS in his time thus far in with Padres.
The 32-year-old is halfway through that deal, and the Pads are looking to unload the last 4 years and $60M. He is, however, able to block trades to 10 specific teams.
Outfielder Myers has, essentially, one year left, as he's owed $20M this season. He has a club option on the final year of his contract in 2023, which, at $20M, would almost certainly be declined by whichever team owns his services at that point. The 31-year-old's career average sits at .254 with a .775 OPS and declining HR and SB totals for the last several years.
